Student Events

MineralsEd partners with mineral exploration and mining organizations in B.C. to facilitate geoscience workshops and activities at annual industry events. For example, the Mining Month Community Fair and student programs (elementary and secondary) at the Association for Mineral Exploration (AME) Roundup Conference.

Highland Valley Copper Mine Tour 2024 - Regional Spotlight: A Career in the Minerals Industry

Grade 10 - 12 students from School District No.83 (North Okanagan-Shuswap) will have the opportunity to tour Teck's Highland Valley Copper Mine on May 17th. This is an excellent opportunity to see Canada's largest open pit copper mine in operation and speak to the many professionals that help us get the metals we use every day!


Regional Spotlight: A Career in the Mining Industry Speaker Series

Grade 10-12 students are invited by MineralsEd to attend a virtual speaker series to explore the breadth of careers within the mining industry.


BC Mining Month Community Fair 2024

MineralsEd will be hosting the BC Mining Month Community Fair in Vancouver on Wednesday, May 8th 2024. Geoscience organizations and mining and exploration companies will come together to present exhibits, demonstrations and hands-on activities on rocks, minerals, the mine development process, BC’s mineral resources, mineral products and sustainability. We will subsidize travel costs on a first come, first served basis for BC classrooms to attend this free event (up to $250 maximum). 


MineralsEd Career Fair for Secondary Students

Join us at CIM Connect for the MineralsEd Career Fair, specifically tailored for students in grades 10-12! This event offers an incredible opportunity for students to engage with employers and discover a diverse range of career options, spanning from science and engineering to trades. Moreover, our career fair will have BCIT and EducationPlannerBC for students to learn how to pursue various careers. Gibraltar Mine Tour 2024 - Regional Spotlight: A Career in the Minerals Industry

Grade 10 - 12 students from School District No. 27 (Cariboo-Chilcotin), 57 (Prince George), and 73 (Kamloops-Thompson) will have the opportunity to tour Taseko's Gibraltar Mine on May 23rd. This is an excellent opportunity to see Canada's second largest open pit copper mine in operation and speak to the many professionals that help us get the metals we use every day!
