Gold Panning with Yukon Dan: Pro-D Field Trip for Kamloops-area Teachers

Spend the day learning about the colourful history of the gold rush in Canada well panning for real gold!

Yukon Dan teaches his award-winning style and techniques while offering a glimpse of what it took to be a successful panner in the heady days of the gold rush!

This field trip will include gold panning where teachers will pan for real gold, learn how to separate minerals with a magnet, and which minerals are commonly associated with gold. Teachers will learn about the effect of the gold rush on Canada, BC, and the Kamloops area. They will also learn about reclamation and its importance to placer mining.

Teachers will be provided with their own brand new gold pan which they get to keep, expert instruction on how to pan for gold, and will be able to keep all the gold they find! Registration is limited to 9 participants to ensure proper social distancing, so make sure to register early. Hand sanitizer, face masks, and lysol wipes will be provided to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved.
