Sea to Sky Virtual Geotour

There is no better place on Earth for students (and teachers) to learn about rocks and minerals, geologic processes, and plate tectonics than right here in British Columbia. Our uplifted mountains reveal Earth’s crust right before our eyes and those mountain building processes continue today!

Join MineralsEd and Douglas College Instructor Dr. Derek Turner for a virtual trip along the Sea to Sky corridor between Vancouver and Whistler to learn about this region’s long, interesting, and complex natural history.

This field trip will:

● identify the natural geologic hazards related to this unique geologic setting.

● highlight the main geologic elements along the Sea to Sky highway (granitic, volcanic and sedimentary rock), and

● unravel the geological history (mountain building, volcanism, glaciation),

This outstanding virtual trip will benefit teachers at all grade levels who teach units in Earth Science or geology, mineral resources and mining, and is particularly relevant to those who want to lead their very own virtual field trip.
